Welcome to episode 14 of pick three chords, celebrating grungy guitars, girl guts, smooth synths and sweet sounds.
This great tune often surfaces in my shuffle, and repeats in my brain, and is the second from Little Anchors - see episode 11 for the previous one.

Enjoyed this since I first heard it last month. From Anna: I suppose this is how I'd summarise the song and what it means: Girl Guts explores the challenges, transitions and pain of the female existence. It's a song I've wanted to create for years but only recently found the words for. When I turned 20, I started to reflect on difficult parts of my childhood and teenage years, and how a lot of it led back to misogyny or trying to live up to certain standards. I think for many women there's this feeling that nothing you do is right or acceptable; if you have children, if you don't have children. If you stand up for yourself, if you say nothing. Even with regards to our appearance, there seems to always be a critical response/element, especially in the media. I think I got to a point where I felt like the expectations from society and loved ones were just impossible, and I wanted to analyse why I felt this way.

Seen Connor and the Bad Kissers many times in various venues, and they always put on a great show. It was tricky picking just one track from the album In Hell, but this one wins at the moment.

The long-awaited album features this track among several other very hummable tunes, and this was the one they finished the album release show with recently - great to hear it live!

From their EP No Need to Relay, Tiny Dragons storm through this song, I've loved it since 2011, a great combination of vocals, funky rhythm and bass. I also featured their track Heavy Heart way way back in episode 1.

Venturing into electronic instrumental music, this is from our first of two Gavins this episode. From Gavin: If I remember right, it was one I started before the albums 80s cinema theming came about. The original concept was to do a song with a bass part that had a Peter hook vibe. But then when I was making the drum loop on my modular (which was just one track printed from the modular synth) and messed with the bass effects pedals, everything changed. There were a few versions of this song along the way and when I finally got out of my own way and let the song dictate, I ended up with this track. that I'm really happy with.

To end this episode, we have our long track from Gavin, previously Gavin McGinty of Sinderins / AMWWF / Magdalen Green. It's a lovely floating piece, a highlight of the new album.
